Kanye West - Blame Game ft John Legend (Snippet)

I'm sure if you're a music head like me, you were scrambling through the net trying to find out what the other songs were featured in Kanye West's 35 minute Runaway video besides the obvious titled songs such as All Of The Lights featuring Rihanna and Dark Fantasy, the song that the mini-film begins with.

Look no further, Blame Game featuring John Legend is the song played after the Phoenix started crying from seeing the cooked turkey at dinner.

Anyway, here is the snippet for now.

*for music lovers, here is the original song sampled from Richard D James entitled Avril 14th.

Ronnie Hits The Daygo Shore

Ronnie Magro from MTVs Jersey Shore stopped by Stingaree last Friday to hang out in the Daygo Shore with fans and party people as well as the Get It In crew.

Ronnie pretty much kept it low key by popping bottles with close friends and hanging out in Stingaree's infamous Penthouse VIP suite where such stars as Beyonce, Jamie Foxx and John Legend have in the past.

DJ Cobra was also in the mix spinning the heat while Holly Montag kept a low profile as well.

Just Be You...

Lebron James has made history...yet again by silencing the same critics that pointed fingers and judged him for living his life earlier this past summer.

At one point in time we have been guilty of judging friends and foes for living their life. On the other hand, we have been judged for living our lives as well. The truth is we all make mistakes, decisions and choices that others may deem to be not suitable for our lives. In reality, each person has to walk their own path and in the end only you can decide what is best for you.

In King James's latest Nike commercial, he pokes fun at the public opinion of what others think he should do now that he has made his decision to be traded to the Miami Heat. Some suggestions LBJ discussed included acting, and playing the bad guy.

This commercial stands out to me personally, because I have been dealing with some issues myself. As an artist building a network/business and being an all around sociable person, I constantly wonder what people really think about me.

As I watch this commercial, I realize two things: One, I can't help but realize other people's perception of me will always vary regardless of what I do or don't do. I really have no control of what others think of me, so I might as well be happy being me.

Two, wondering what others think of you is really a rhetorical question because its rare that someone will actually tell you their true thoughts. You will usually be left wondering what's up.

Either way its a losing battle, and useless to care because you'll never know the real answer. I can only imagine being in Lebron's shoes, but it seems he has come to the same realization hence making this commercial.

To be honest, there is always going to be someone saying something so like Rihanna says "just live ya life!"

Anyway, check out the latest King LBJ video and as always, leave your thoughts.

Rapper T.I. Won't Face LA Drug Charges

Los Angeles prosecutors have declined to file a felony drug charge against T.I. stemming from his arrest last month on the Sunset Strip.

According to a charge evaluation worksheet released Monday, deputies found four ecstasy pills on the 30-year-old rapper from Atlanta.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., was on supervised release after serving 10 months in prison for federal weapons charges when he was arrested Sept. 1. A Georgia judge earlier this month sentenced him to another 11 months in prison for breaking his federal parole with the latest arrest.

As a condition of his release earlier this year, Harris was ordered not to commit another federal, state or local crime while on supervised release, or to illegally possess a controlled substance. He was also told to take at least three drug tests after his release and to participate in a drug and alcohol treatment program.

The deputy district attorney in LA who rejected the case cited the sentence and the small amount of drugs found as reasons drug charges aren't being pursued.

"The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office's decision to reject TI's case was the right thing to do under the circumstances," Harris' attorney, Steve Sadow, wrote in an e-mail. He commended the office for "exercising its discretion to reject prosecution in light of the legal and factual issues involved."

The Grammy Award-winning rapper is expected to begin his prison term on Nov. 1.

Kanye West - Runaway (Official Video)

This weekend, Kanye West just released his latest visual work of art via MTV and BET as well as simultaneously streaming live on the web.

The video begins with a flame from the sky falling to the ground. The falling shooting star turns out to be a Phoenix bird in which Kanye rescues from the ashes.

This video is very artistic and holds a lot of subliminal messages with Kanye eventually falling in love with the Phoenix and after being told the Phoenix was a bird he replied that he didnt notice.

What I like about the video is yeezy features a lot of the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album tracks including a revamped All of the Lights featuring Rihanna as well as an unrecognized song with Kid Cudi on the hook.

Even though the video is specifically for the song Runaway featuring Pusha T, it is 35 minutes long which gives additional visuals for more than just Runaway enabling us to get a better understanding of the music.

Anyway, check out the official 35 minute mini-film and leave your thoughts...

Let Me Help You...

Although I can't decide which feeling to ultimately have, this has got to be the funnest or scariest commercial I have ever seen.

Reminiscent of the Saw movie series Clown doll, I am terrified, but the fact that the kids are innovative enough to dress up just to get more candy for the neighborhood, I can't help but laugh at the cringing voice.

If you haven't seen this commercial yet, check it out.

Game - Pushin It Feat T.I. & Robin Thicke (Official Video)

The Game is back with a smash, maybe one of the best, songs from his Brake Lights mixtape entitled Pushin It featuring T.I. and Robin Thicke.

Pushin It is very sensual and should grab the attention of anyone that likes to take things slow when it comes to pleasing their mate.

Although none of the artists are in the video, the visuals put you right in the scene leaving you wanting more of the Good life as it takes place in a "house in the hills getaway" type environment.

Anyway, check out the video and leave your thoughts.

The Evil Empire...

In a Major League Baseball historic episode, Texas Rangers pitcher Cliff Lee brought Game 3 of the 2010 ALCS to a screeching halt early leaving the New York Yankees scoreless, speechless and hopeless in an 8-0 Texas Rangers Shut Out win. I actually am a Yankee fan so of course my mouth was in awe.

The truth is Cliff Lee is an outstanding pitcher and you truly can't win them all especially when you have great players like him on the opposing team.

I am however going to throw an SSD flag right away because people will say The Yankees buy championships, but if you refer to the old playground days of course you always wanted the BEST players on your team. It only makes sense. And if you have the resources to get the best players why all the hate?

Isn't it the American way to have the best of everything. New York is the biggest city in the country so it makes sense for them to have revenue to match.

I know some people hate the Yankees but its still comes down to winning games no matter who is on the team.

Hopefully for the Yankees sake, Mr. Lee will join them because as of right now it seems, no team, not even the powerful Yankees can beat his powerful pitching.

G.O.O.D. Music Cypher

If you have not witnessed the reemergence of Kanye West's miraculous comeback after his disastrous almost career-ending Taylor Swift altercation/debauchery that happened a year ago, the rock you have been under must have its own kitchen and bathroom because you were obviously pretty comfortable down there.

This past year Kanye West took some time off, staying out of the spotlight to get his life together as well as working on honing his craft, taking his new material/music to new heights. This pause in the spectrum may have been the best thing for him as well as the music world.

Since his return, Kanye has done nothing but drop G.O.O.D. music that in a sense has returned him to the beginning, which is the type of music the people have yearned to hear from him since day one.

Seeing Kanye's work ethic as of late has made it almost impossible for me to want to slack off just even a little bit. It seems Mr. West took some advice from the college dropout album teacher and woke up only to be refreshed with a new look on life and a brilliant new career.

The fact that Kanye didn't give up after having a melt down from his mother passing away, losing his girlfriend and whatever other person battles he had to overcome showed the preservance and humility within his spirit. Honestly, by him taking a break to do some soul searching is very commendable.

Not to mention, watching Kanye screw up royally, then come back to the spotlight not only better but stronger, I think its safe to say that if anyone makes a mistake, which all people do, the only way to rectify the situation is apologize, don't dwell and get back to the roots of whatever it is that makes your gift, to be perfectly clear, great.

Many times we go through things in our life that will push us close to the edge almost destroying us, but the human spirit, ever so resilient, always fights to make things right.

The truth is most people may not have been able to handle that amount of overwhelming pressure and this is the very difference between those that are stars and those that never quite make it. The stars continue to shine even when everyone else says the light is out.

Personally, I always feel like every piece of hard work you put into your talent is worth something awesome. The minute you decide to give up, is the very moment some schmuck will pick up your left-over pieces, only to take "your" spot and shine exactly the way you were meant to.

I just have a never give up attitude because I don't want anyone taking the place that I worked hard for. I don't know that's just me though.

Anyway, Kanye and his record Label G.O.O.D. Music crew including Common and Pusha T, formerly of the Clipse, performed the last of 4 cyphers at the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards. From this heart felt performance, I think its safe to say that Mr. West is still MAJOR.

Rick Ross - Aston Martin Music (Official Video)

Finally, the time has come for the visuals to one of my favorite songs from Teflon Don, Rick Ross's latest album to drop.

Aston Martin Music, which world premiered today, was my favorite song from the album the moment I heard it.

Its just something about Chrisette Michele's beautiful voice mixed with Drake's vocals that just does wonders for the already melodic track.

In this video, its just as I would picture it, Rozaaaay riding with the top down enjoying life followed by a beach front shot chilling in front of the cars.

Wait a minute, have we become too predictable or is that just like Kanye West says the life everybody asks for? I know for sure, I don't want to work hard just to push a Rav 4.

Anyway, check out the new video and leave your thoughts.

Lloyd Banks - Start It Up

It seems as if Lloyd Banks is on a roll dropping another potential heat seeker to keep you warm in the up coming winter months. Banks has teamed up with Swizz Beatz, Fabolous, Ryan Leslie and Kanye West to hit the people with the motivational anthem Start It Up. This is my I'm Focused song for the day.

Sometimes you just need that small extra push to get you motivated to accomplish your goals and with its pulsating yet driving beat, Start It Up is definitely the right song for the job.

A lot of times when people don't believe in you, it can be very discouraging but on the other hand, it can be fuel to energize you by proving those that doubt you oh so wrong.

In the words of Swizz Beatz on this song, You got A Problem...vroom vroom Start It Up!

Start It Up is another possible song from Lloyd Banks The Hunger For More 2 album dropping soon.

Anyway, check out this motivational music that can be the inspiration you need to get your day started while putting the haters in their place.

Chris Brown - Deuces Remix

Chris Brown has reached out to some true A-Listers for sure on his remix for Deuces. Hearing any new music from anyone of these particular artists is always a treat but to have Drake, Kanye West, T.I., Fabolous and Andre 3000 on the same track is like having Christmas time come 5 times a year. One for each verse/gem.

The truth is this song is so well put together and every artist holds his own weight but as always both Kanye West and Andre 3000 verses stand out respectively.

Enough about what I think, I'll let you decide who has the best verse, but in reality, I don't even really want to compare, I do however want to appreciate the fact these guys on the same track is rare and precious like a diamond.

I realize I am late on posting this, but better late than never right?

Anyway, check out the Chris Brown - Deuces Remix here...

Kim Kardashian Poses For W Magazine (NSFW)

In the November 2010 issue of W Magazine, Kim Kardashian graces the cover...in the nude. To be honest, I feel that the shoot was actually tasteful and artistic.

The W Magazine is one of the premier media outlets for exposing artistic class and fashionable sophistication to the masses, so I seriously doubt they would cross that line into the darkside...hmmmm.

Since hitting the mainstream from her illustrious sex tape with R&B singer Ray J, Kim Kardashian has embraced class, taste and grace trying to rise from an otherwise negative past.

I usually don't post things not necessarily safe for work but I felt this was monumental, not to mention the woman's body is truly a work of art when photographed tastefully and artistically.

And yes, I will admit, for this particular article, I was a little biased because the month of November embodies that which is #scorpioseason a.k.a. my birth month.

Most of those familiar with my #antics know the scorpios celebrate the entire month Of November starting 12 AM November 1st.

I think seeing this cover beforehand might have started this years party a little early. Happy Birthday to me :)

Fuse: Beyonce Takeover

After talking to different people, depending on what side you are on, it seems certain people have mixed feelings about Christopher "Columbus Day" and what it really stands for.

I guess I could go into the history of this particular day and the person its dedicated to, after all this site is definitely prone to the raising awareness of those potentially perpetuating false reality a.k.a. selling dreams, but today I want to remain positive and focus on motivation.

Instead of dwelling on a subject matter that will definitely divide people, I want to recognize that Fuse is having an all day marathon for Beyonce. You know, the R&B/Pop Diva I have loved since 1997!?

What's funny is some of you may even mixed feelings about her. Oh well you can't please everyone. But I say, use this day to be positive and accomplish some goals or go out and do something you've been meaning to do for a while.

And anyway, this is motivation for me because I would think every artist, business person and activist would want to have their own "day". Why not start working on that today?

Ebony Magazine 65 Year Anniversary

Although some people may not realize it, within the entertainment industry, the phrase "making it" really is just the tip of the iceberg.

The truth is most individuals that "make it", be it artists or exposure outlets, are finished before they start and if you are one of the so-called lucky ones to become "discovered", establishing yourself as a successful entity within your field is a whole another task in itself.

For a magazine, it becomes even more of a challenge to remain successful, credible and relavant because there are more artists than there are publications, so the industry as a whole looks to that media outlet for exposure, nurturing and development.

Building credibility in a world where everyone has an agenda is like finding a needle in a haystack; hard to come by. After all it is the media that broadcasts to the world what is supposedly trendy and acceptable, so of course certain parties will try to persuade said publications to cater their particular message to the masses.

Ebony Magazine has obviously done something right. This year Ebony celebrates 65 years in business. With a strong credible base and background, the national magazine has lasted through the test of time all while bridging the generation gap by staying relative to current situations and remembering the past.

By Mary J. Blige reshooting the epic Diana Ross Ebony cover for this month's issue, its evident the magazine definitely has proven its monument to keeping the bridge strong.

Ebony plans to reshoot Regina King, Omar Epps and Yolanda Adams along with others in the up coming months. I personally can't wait to see Samuel L. Jackson's reshoot of the Dr. Martin Luther King cover.

Anyway, check out the video from behind the scenes of some of the Ebony magazine 65th anniversary cover shoots...

Holla If You Need Me...

Have you ever woke up with a song playing in your head? A random one at that? Every once in a while, my passion for music wakes me up singing these random songs on repeat not being able to start my day until I hear the actual song.

Today was no different as I woke up to Trey Songz song from his album Ready called Holla If You Need Me. I have no idea why this specific song was playing, I haven't listened to that CD in a while.

I guess maybe its because a special someone was in my head and I wanted to reach out? No, the truth is, there was no special someone specifically but more of a inclination to say, each person in my life, whether they have been on an intimate level, friend, business partner or just part of #teamfun has had a significant impact on my life and I am proud to have met them.

To be honest, I try to pride myself in being a good friend that is there for my friends if they need an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on or a napkin to wipe with. So to all my friends, this is my I'm focused song of the day. Holla if you need ME!

No Love Video Premiere

A good music video embraces the song’s lyrics and provides a visual aid for the viewer that interprets the meaning of the song, but a great music video has the viewer rewinding the video to pick up all the double meanings and hidden messages.

The brand new music video for “No Love” Eminem featuring Lil’ Wayne, premiered last Thursday night on MTV and in my eyes, the video is exactly what the doctor ordered.

However, according to lackluster online bloggers like www.idolator.com’s Becky Bain, some people are apparently just too simple minded to understand the pure genius behind this artistic view of school bullies and how some of us find ourselves playing the role of the underdog on a day-to-day basis.

The video opens with a shot of a young boy sporting a black eye and then pans over to a scene that shows him getting pegged by dodge balls as he tries to fend off his bullies by knocking the balls away from his face, since he has no chance of catching one with three attackers simultaneously launching them at him.

Next up we get a shot of the young boy’s room, his walls are covered with Lil’ Wayne and Eminem memorabilia and extra attention is focused on the motto embedded on Eminem’s “8 Mile” poster, “Every moment is another chance,” as the kid hangs his head and sits on his bean bag, contemplating life’s obstacles.

After the sample of “What Is Love” kicks in, Lil Wayne’s verse begins and the boy is shown getting dressed after gym class as the same bullies approach him. They push him around, eventually knocking the fitted cap off his head and pinning him against the lockers.

The bullies continue intimidating and demeaning the terrified youth, but even though the kid has heart, he’s seen looking down at the floor and the viewer can just tell that he’s had enough of their cowardly attacks on him.

Wayne’s verse is very dark, which fits the scenes of the boy being portrayed perfectly, as he raps memorable punch lines like:

“I think about more than I forget/ But I don’t go around fire expecting not to sweat,”

“Ok you want me up in that cage, then I’ll come out in beast mode/ I got this world stuck in the safe, combination is the G Code.”

And:

“Be good or be good at it/ fuckin’ right I got my gun, semi carter-matic” (a metaphor that he’s “strapped” with lyrical ammunition/ wisdom to deal with his foes… not an actual gun, despite popular opinion like simple minded critics such as Bain may be prone to point outJ)

Halfway through Wayne’s verse, the same kid is shown walking through the hallways at school as the lead bully purposely bumps into him, trying to scare him, but finally the victim stares back coldly and the viewer can sense that soon enough he’s going to stand up to this non sense that’s plaguing him.

While Wayne’s verse is dark and portrays the gloomy opening of the video fabulously, the last ¼ of his verse is sped up and has more of an upbeat “I’m going to strike down my enemy” feel to it.

The viewer can sense the change in the young boy’s demeanor as Wayne raps frantically about not being able to keep him down, while the boy in the video fights back for his hat in the restroom of his school as the bullies try to steal it from him. Weezy concludes his verse with:

“You can keep knocking, but won’t knock me down, no love lost, no love found.”

At the conclusion of the bathroom scene, which ends with the young boy being knocked down to the floor after he stands up for himself, Eminem begins what is arguably this year’s best verse in rap, and in my eyes, one of the greatest ever.

As Eminem is shown standing in a recording booth rapping his lyrics, the young boy goes to his house where his father is shown looking at the marks on his son’s face from the altercation and seems to be mouthing something along the lines of “do something about it,” the young boy jumps on his skateboard and heads back to the school as Em raps:

“Man get these wack c*&ksuckers off stage/ Where the f&^k is Kanye when you need him?!”

The verse is incredibly symbolic of the upcoming scene in which the boy is finally ready to make a stand against the bullies, once and for all. Em’s lyrics have an underdog vibe to them, something I haven’t really felt him convey this strong in his music since the “Marshall Mathers LP” days, his wordplay and delivery are amazing and the director of the video does an incredible job capturing the power of the verse on film. As Em spits ferocious bars such as:

“It’s an adrenaline rush you feel the bass thump all the way to the parking lot fellow/ set fire to the mic and ignite the crowd you can see the sparks from hot metal.”

And:

“Till’ I’m toppling from the top I’m not going to stop/ I’m standing on top of my Monopoly board/ That means that I’m on top of my game and it don’t stop till my hip don’t hop anymore/ When you’re so good that you can’t say it/ Because it ain’t even cool to sound cocky anymore/ People just get sick when you spit/ These fools can’t drool or dribble a drop anymore”

The young boy is shown in a separate scene fighting back against the school bullies, punching the leader of the hooligans in the face and then shoving one of his accomplices, however at the end of the video it’s revealed that the boy was just imagining physically fighting back against his foes and instead walks past them now with a new found swagger.

Instead of attacking him like the bullies had in the past, stares are exchanged and the boy continues on his way to class, his enemies are now nothing but irrelevant chumps to him, their immaturity can no longer bother him.

Much like Eminem’s film “8 Mile” the video provides a memorable depiction of the underdogs in our society and how we cope with our daily dilemmas. Overall, it’s definitely not the greatest music video ever, but it definitely was an incredible portrayal of Em and Wayne’s lyrics from the song.

And nothing is stronger within the song than Em’s final bars of his verse:

“You’ll never take my pride/ Killing the flow/ Slow venom/ And the opponent is getting no mercy/ Mark my words ain’t letting up/ relentless/ I smell blood/ I don’t give a f&^k/ Keep giving them hell/ Where was you when I fell and needed help/ You get NO LOVE”

Keep rockin’ it Em, you’ve helped “Recover” rap and for God sakes, somebody FREE WEEZY J

RZA–Deeper Than Music-The Tao of Wu

Philosopher, actor, screenwriter, rapper, storyteller, author, director, student, teacher, pupil, and leader all can be used to describe The RZA. However, he’s best known to the mainstream audience as one of rap’s most prominent producers and the founder of the notorious Wu Tang Clan.

Born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, the RZA continues to prove time and time again that his legacy reaches far beyond hip hop….and music for that matter.

I just got finished reading his latest book “The Tao of Wu,” and I’m once again mesmerized at how intellectual and thoughtful he really is, the book touches on many subjects, but mainly focuses on his personal views regarding religion, family, success, and of course, the failures we all encounter, all of which he speaks openly about, from the triumph to the tragedy.

Throughout the book, RZA analyzes the mistakes he made as a youth, tells the story of his idea to bring Wu Tang Clan’s members together to create arguably the most popular rap group ever, vividly describes his life on the streets of NY, including the night which later led him to face attempted murder charges, and gives insight to anybody who reads the book as to how to extract positive energy from negative situations.

In 2005, I had the pleasure of interviewing The RZA for a phone conference when I was a journalist at San Diego State writing for the Daily Aztec for the movie “Derailed.”

When my editor called me one morning and asked if I’d like to interview rap’s biggest superstar at the time, 50 Cent (who had recently shattered the billboard charts with his solo mainstream debut “Get Rich Or Die Trying”) or the RZA, I didn’t even hesitate with my answer, “bring on the man they call The Abbott” I told her.”

To this day I can’t describe the excitement I felt when I heard him jump on the line at the beginning of the conference call, his voice is very distinct and just the sound of it makes you feel like you’re talking to somebody who is years beyond others in maturity.

As Shaolin monk Shifu Shi Yan Ming says in the foreword of “The Tao of Wu.”

“You feel his wisdom in what he says, how he stands, how he moves….”

After reading RZA’s books, analyzing his music, listening to and reading his interviews, watching him perform on stage, and act in film over the years, I now completely understand what Shifu was saying. RZA is a special human being.

He’s a man who came from unbelievable poverty and instead of being angry at the situation he was dealt with, he has continued to educate himself.

Whether it be traveling, meditating, making music, studying kung fu, providing insight for up and coming musicians/producers, screenwriting, directing, or acting in movies, the RZA seems to finally be at peace with himself and has conquered a majority of his inner demons.

However, none of his accomplishments have come without heartache, disappointment, struggle, and the inner fire to continuously not give into life’s obstacles, no matter how monumental they become.

Personally, I think the most valuable lesson that can be derived from “The Tao of Wu” is when RZA is discussing the death of his cousin and Wu Tang Clansman Russell “Ol’ Dirty Bastard” Jones.

The night of ODB’s death, RZA was over visiting his cousin and witnessed him drowning deeper into drug addiction and failed to intervene, later blaming himself for not reaching out to his cousin and close friend.

“My cousin ODB died because we didn’t pay enough attention. We let him do what the f*&k he wanted. I tell my friends now, “Don’t ever stop me if I’m fucking up. If I’m being a dickhead, let me know, please.” You have to do that, especially if someone is family. Especially if you love them.”

Too many times we allow our loved ones to go down the wrong path right in front of our eyes and don’t do anything about it, one of many lessons RZA teaches in his book is to hold your loved ones close to you and to never ignore cries for help, even if it means intervening when others are scared to.

Life shouldn’t be taken for granted and neither should someone’s who is in need of help. In college, I had a close friend die in front of my eyes and to this day, I still kind of blame myself.

I knew there was something horribly wrong with him but couldn’t quite put my finger on it, obviously I didn’t know it was life threatening or I would’ve intervened, but that’s still no excuse for not reaching out to a friend who was in obvious need of help.

Unfortunately, before I had a chance to sit down man to man with him, he passed away due to a scenario similar to ODB’s, I had a chance to be a hero and save a life and instead sat back like a coward and let an amazing friend fall deeper into his addiction, which eventually led to his demise.

Granted there were people around him everyday who knew way more about his problems than I did, some of the stuff he was doing I hadn’t even seen in my life, nonetheless experimented with, but still I believe that whatever God is out there gave me an opportunity to be a savior and instead of seizing the moment, I failed my friend, myself, our friends, and his family.

We all make mistakes in our life, but I have to say that was the most crucial and idiotic one I’ve made and the only one I wish I could take back. But like Jay Z once said:

“In order to survive, gotta learn to live with regrets.”

RZA firmly believes that once you achieve knowledge in your life you can seek wisdom and once both “steps” come together, one may find “love” the strongest of all emotions that the human spirit can experience.

“At first love is like a vacuum that takes courage from your heart. You’re scared around a woman you love. You’re not the same tough dude, the same thug. At first, love weakens you. But soon it makes you strong in ways you couldn’t imagine.”

RZA explains that once you achieve true love, you’ll be stronger than you can possibly imagine and will be at the highest point of your existence, however he also warns that:

“When love doesn’t find its way into your heart, you die.”

He proposes the idea that no matter how much heart one has, no matter how much courage and compassion one exerts, in the end, it’s love that keeps us alive.

“The universe will show you whether your ego is at the steering wheel or you’re using your talent the way God wants you to. It’s going to come to light. No matter how much heart you got, it’s love you need to survive.”

These passages hit me hard and I realize now that I’ve attained much knowledge and wisdom during my 25 years, but not enough, so that’s why I’m still in search of love and when the time is right, it’ll come or I suppose I’ll die without it in my heart, as RZA believes.

“The Tao of Wu” shows a side of RZA that many may not know exist, given his hard looking demeanor and the fact that the guy is the leader of one of the most feared and respected rap groups of all time.

However, after reading this book I was presently surprised that this man is absolutely brilliant and thrives on learning something new everyday, he’s ambitious, righteous, and ambiguous, but one thing’s for sure, he’s one of a kind.

RZA gives solid advice throughout his book centering on dealing with the loss of loved ones, paying respects to those who came before you, acknowledging and trying to understand all cultures, questioning and learning from everything that is passed down to you, and of course he gives grade A advice on how to become a world renowned music producer, even unveiling some of his personal secrets on classic Wu Tang tracks such as “Can It All Be So Simple.”

The “Tao of Wu” is a must read for hip hop heads and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who’s in search of an enlightening read that’s under 250 pages.

A lot of interesting concepts and beliefs can be derived from the book and whether or not one agrees with RZA’s principles, they sure as hell are intriguing and fun to learn about.
